I recently replaced my Philips DVT7500 that abruptly died with a Tascam DR-05X which I had been wanting to purchase so I had the  perfect reason. This is my first out of the box capture in my backyard in the mid evening. In this capture you’ll hear bird song, a distant train whistle, neighborhood dogs, motorcycles and more.

The DR-05X has two stereo mics on top and a 1/8 plug in power jack located between the two capsules that works perfectly with my Roland CS-10EM monitoring earbuds and my lav mics. The DR-05 does not have any XLR inputs like my TAscam DR-40 which makes it much more portable in the field.

I haven’t had much experience with the DR-05X yet but I can already hear the difference from the Philips DVT7500 and to say I’m pleased is an understatement. I look forward to more outings with the DR-05X
